Hello!

Since we are getting closer to Thanksgiving, you will notice that we have been concentrating heavily on our persuasive essays! I will continue to conference with students to oversee the writing process...but after that, we will move on to self-editing and peer editing. I am anxious for you all to have a solid essay before Thanksgiving, and I am hoping that each of you is working hard on this in place of the monthly writing prompts you completed in September and October!! We will review the process again, and you will receive your editing checklist in class (RW3 PM Class already received theirs). You will also receive some of your recent work, which may have some corrections or suggestions to help you in your future writing assignments! I hope to return all of them before the holiday!

Today's work will consist of:

  • Persuasive Essay Writing, including a review of our template and a conference with me as needed.
  • Sentence Structure Work to help you create effective sentences that are parallel and concise. We will include a review of subjects and verbs/predicates, which will help you determine if your sentences are complete during your self-editing process.
  • Vocabulary Activities to help you expand your knowledge! Your Personal Dictionary words, which are due on Friday, are part of this process, as well as our Greek/Latin root work, our daily morning Jumble(s), and our new synonym board.
  • Geography Study to increase our knowledge of this branch of Social Studies that includes map study as well as the location, culture, and traditions of people all over the world. Today's work will focus on various regions of the United States.
  • Comprehension Work that includes reading about Jackie Robinson as well as taking an assessment on a reading passage provided on a handout. We will also review important literary terms; it seems like forever since we last discussed what a hyperbole is:)
  • Discussions about all of the above, which helps us all to remember every skill we learn in RW3!! Enjoy the process, as always!!

Next week, we will have class on Monday, November 20 for the evening class, and Tuesday, November 21 for our morning group! Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and Friday is a day off as part of this holiday. So please enjoy your turkey as well as what will be one week off (since I won't see you until the following week!)! So ... after November 21, I won't see you again until:

Monday, November 27 for PM class
Tuesday, November 28 for AM class

Our regular skills work on this page will continue tomorrow for the morning class!! And yes, we will still meet tomorrow, Friday, November 17 and Monday, November 20! So please be sure to bring your Personal Dictionary words into class. If you can think of a synonym for any word you bring in, that would be a wonderful bonus for us all!

Thanks, as always, for being such a great class!!
