You will have the opportunity to use Essential Ed during the second part of class, which is part of our curriculum during this term. Please take advantage of this resource, since many of you are taking and passing HiSETs and GEDs this month! Previous Directions: As the school year draws to a close, it is always a good idea to review specific topics we have learned about during our time together. Here are just a few to start us off! Part One: PUNCTUATION PROOFREADING Directions: In each sentence below, decide if punctuation has been used correctly or not. If it has, a simple "correct" will do. If it has not, please write "incorrect," and decide which correction(s) should be made. 1. Question: What part of speech is fourteen? Part Six: WRITING--ANECDOTES! Directions: Please write an anecdote about one of the following topics! Remember that an anecdote is a very short story you share about an experience you had in some way. It can be as simple as telling us what happened as you were commuting to school or what occurred while you were working at your job. Remember: We tell anecdotes all the time (during each and every class we have!), and it can be fun to put them in writing. You can use a conversational style of writing for anecdotes, using first person point of view, and choosing vocabulary you would use when speaking. Above all, enjoy the process!! Topics:
Part Seven: MORE WRITING--ESSAYS! Directions: Please write a persuasive essay about one of the following topics. Remember: State your topic in the very first sentence for this particular activity. Here are just some possible opening sentences/topic sentences that will help you in your writing. You may choose to select one or reword it to fit your own needs. You may also choose to create your own! Since this is persuasive writing, only your opinion counts, so you do not need to think of opposing viewpoints. You do, however, need to have proof/evidence that what you state in sentence one is what we should believe. Be sure to include lots of good points that would answer the question WHY effectively! Example 1: Remote learning is an effective way for adults to take classes. Example 2: School days should begin no later than 9AM for high school students. Example 3: It is important to embrace your culture and heritage on a daily basis. Example 4: Every summer vacation should be spent at the seashore! Example 5: Passing your HiSETs may involve a lot of work, but it will be the most rewarding goal you will ever reach.
BONUS: Use three words from Vocabulary Lesson 17 in a short paragraph! Your use of these words should demonstrate your knowledge of their meaning! Good Luck!
