Since we are truly on the stretch toward summer vacation, and much of our writing work is safely enclosed in our Writer's Notebooks, we will continue to take the time to pull out our favorite pieces to include in our portfolios. Let's give them the spotlight they deserve!

It is important to be able to present various types/styles of writing that we have discussed and practiced in class, as well as to show the process you went through in creating a rough draft before your final copy. This allows you to demonstrate your understanding of the importance of proofreading your work, and it's also great to show that you have made progress in much of our lessons in grammar/mechanics of writing! I know you all have!!

Types of Writing To Include:

1) Photo Prompt Writing

2) Story Starter Writing

3) Anecdotes (This type of writing should be the one that comes easiest or most natural to you for, as we saw during our lessons, we do this every day when we talk about situations that occurred in our lives. You can use a photo that reminds you of your past, a song that evokes a feeling that brings you back to a different time in your life, or even an object or souvenir you keep because of what it represents to you. Each one is a symbol of a story it holds, and this story is your anecdote!

4) Business and Friendly Letters
(Remember to use the samples in your packet for the exact setup, punctuation, and capitalization necessary!)

5) Argument Essay
(This could be the dress code debate we have been working on, the dilemma on whether cellphones should be allowed in schools, or any other topic we have spoken about this year. Remember that a previous post on this Lessons Page has several ideas you can also write about if you are not happy with one of the pieces you have already written!)

6) Persuasive Essay
(This is unlike the Argument Essay in that while you would draw a Venn Diagram to brainstorm facts for the argument essay, you would instead use a single circle for the persuasive piece! This is because a persuasive piece has only one point of view--your own!)
